STAGE_W
The STAGE_W model was developed to provide a more comprehensive representation of the production and consumption of water. The model is particularly appropriate in situations where there is the emergence and/or existence of complex water supply systems, e.g., the increasing number of countries where water is an increasing constrain on economic and social activities. The model was developed with Jonas Luckmann as part of his PhD thesis at Hohenheim University.
The model is a development of STAGE1. Different types of water, usually treated as an intermediate input, are included as arguments in nested value added function. The key features include
- All water is a produced commodity with different cost structures for different ‘types’ of water
- Multiple sources of water
- Natural (surface) water - collected from rainfall or extracted from rivers
- Groundwater - extracted from aquifers
- Desalination of sea water
- Multiple qualities of water
- Potable water
- Irrigation water of different qualities
- Water recycling of water to different quality standards
